Chattanooga Newcomers Club
Events & Activities
Chattanooga Newcomers Club is all about inclusion. We demonstrate that goal at regularly scheduled events, which include Book Club each month, Luncheons each month (often with a program), an informal monthly Coffee Social at member’s homes as well as monthly activities including field trips and day trips. Many of our gatherings are followed by going to lunch where we can catch up with friends and meet new members. We encourage prospective members to check us out at these monthly events. After visiting twice, we hope you’ll want to join us permanently as a new member! All members are encouraged to participate in Club activities, recruit neighbors and friends, share knowledge & talent and be leaders and mentors to enhance the experience for all members. If you don't see something that is of interest to you, consider becoming a leader and getting others engaged!
The Chattanooga Newcomers Club runs on volunteer energy. Board Members and Activity Group Leaders are all volunteers. Please join in and bring new ideas with you!
Book Club
When: First Wednesday of the Month
The Book Club chairman and participants suggest a variety of book selections – both fiction and non-fiction - to be read throughout the year. Book Club discussions are held each month on the 1st Wednesday starting at 10AM. A leader guides the lively discussion. Several participants will usually go to lunch afterwards to continue fellowship.
Coffee Social
When: Second Wednesday of the Month
Our Coffee Socials are a great way for members to learn more about each other, visit with friends and meet new friends in a casual setting. Coffee Socials are held at 10AM on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at members homes. Participants who are interested will usually go to lunch afterwards at a nearby restaurant.
Monthly Activities / Outings
When: Third Wednesday of the Month
Club Activities are held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month and include outings to both local locations and to locations within a two-hour radius of Chattanooga. These monthly outings are suitable for members and their guests and most often include a lunch stop. The Activities Committee is responsible for selecting and organizing these outings, which are always a fun way to explore new places and strengthen friendships.
Luncheon & Meeting
When: Fourth Wednesday of the Month
Our luncheons are held at various locations throughout the Chattanooga area beginning at 11AM on the 4th Wednesday of the month. Our Co-Vice Presidents invite various guest speakers who bring us information on nonprofit organizations where we may serve as volunteers if interested. Attendance at our monthly luncheon meetings continues to grow namely due to inspiring speakers and intriguing content. In the past year, our programs included:
• Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute
• Volunteers in Medicine
• Operation Freedom Dogs
• Medal of Honor Museum
• Smokey Mountain Service Dogs
Mix & Mingle
When: Weekends
Mix & Mingle events are open for all members along with their “plus ones” – spouse, friend or significant other – and are typically scheduled on evenings or weekends. The goal of the Mix & Mingle committee is to schedule and plan a variety of outings that are suitable for all members tastes and budgets. Dining out might be accompanied by a fun activity or there may be a themed gathering at a member’s home.
NewSteppers
When: Once or Twice a Month
The Chairwoman selects various locations in the greater Chattanooga area for members and guests to meet for morning walks varying in length. After walking, participants are welcome to enjoy lunch and fellowship at a local eatery.
Special Interest Groups
Our Special Interest Groups reflect various interests of club members and can change from year to year. New special interest groups can begin at any time and are a wonderful way to find people who want to have fun doing what YOU like to do! Current Special Interest Groups include the following:
Board Meetings
Board Meetings are held quarterly. Members who are curious about the club's administration, who want to get more involved and/or have a good idea you want the board to consider are invited to attend a board meeting. Please contact any officer and check the calendar in the monthly newsletter for dates.
Flight Bridge
In this group members have the same partner the entire year. Each month they go to another member/bridge ‘couples’ home to play. If you don’t have a partner, the leaders of this group match up women so they can participate. Cost is $5 per person and prizes are awarded to the highest scores at the end of the year. Typically we begin in September and play until the end of May in the following year.
Theater
The Chairwoman keeps members informed of various productions offered by both local and Broadway companies. Members who have an interest in a specific production can meet as a group to attend the theater event
Sunshine Committee
The Chairwoman reaches out to our own members needing support during illness or family circumstances.
